On 9-10 October 2025, eight safety professionals from across the European rail sector came together at the UIC headquarters for an intensive two-day Peer Reviewer Training session.
This comprehensive programme provided an in-depth overview of the peer review process and methodology, based on the EU Agency for Railways’ (ERA) Safety Culture Model. The participants learned about the full structure of a typical one-week peer review, including the key tools used in the field, such as interviews, observations, and focus groups.
To bring the methodology to life, the training session included a series of practical exercises designed to simulate real-world scenarios and reinforce learning. As part of this, Bernard Penners, Infrabel, and Virginie Papillault, UIC, shared their expertise and created a collaborative and engaging learning environment.
If you are interested in contributing to the advancement of safety culture in the rail sector and would like to participate in a future training session, please contact Virginie Papillault for more information.
