The Global Team of Experts (GTE) is based on an initiative of RZD President Yakunin with the intention to promote the development of international (outside Europe) and intercontinental corridors under the umbrella of UIC.
This activity, which is now part of the portfolio of the UIC Freight Department, was re-launched at a stakeholders meeting on 17 December under the chairmanship of Oliver Sellnick.
The meeting gathered representatives from Railways, International Organisations, shipping lines, forwarders etc.
After having reviewed the current rail links and the UIC project portfolio to support this activity, the actors underlined the need for UIC to continue its involvement in the development of international corridors and agreed its role to be as follows:

In addition the GTE will serve as a Steering Committee in the organisation of the second Global Rail Freight Conference (St Petersburg, 6-7 July) as far as global corridor issues are concerned.

The GTE remains open to any interested member or outside party who could contribute to the promotion and development of intercontinental corridors.
