On 21 and 22 February OSJD organised an International Seminar in Beijing on the “Practical Application of the CIM/SMGS Consignment Note between Europe and Asia”. The seminar was attended by 13 railway undertakings including CR, RZD, BC, DB Schenker Rail, PKP Cargo, MAV, RCH, CFR Marfa, KTZ, EVR, LDZ, LG, UZ and four international organisations (OSJD, UNESCAP, UIC, CIT). UIC was represented by Dr Miklos Kopp, Director of UIC’s Freight Department.
The key issues discussed during the seminar were as follows:
- Chinese Railways (CR) will implement the CIM/SMGS consignment note on the main border stations to Russia, Mongolia and Kazakhstan.
- DB Schenker Rail is to start a pilot train from China across Kazakhstan to Germany.
- During the second half of this year, MAV will organise another pilot train from China across Kazakhstan and Hungary to Europe.
