GIS Training for Rail Executives 7 – 8 November 2012 at UIC Headquarters, Paris

The use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) within railways is expanding very rapidly – keep your company up to date!

Most railways use GIS in network descriptions and infrastructure asset repositories, and increasingly in train path conception, network maintenance, traffic management, property management and financial management. In addition the railways, via Member States, are expected to provide railway data in GIS format for two EU directives, namely Register of Infrastructure (≈ 2015) as recently decided and INSPIRE (2017).

The UIC GIS training provides a unique opportunity for railway managers to learn about GIS implementation and potential for railways. The training is targeted at railway managers who need to understand the basic GIS concepts and how this integrative technology can bring together traditionally separate business streams to enhance the company’s overall efficiency.

The course provides also examples and “ways of explaining” for those who need to disseminate GIS knowledge within their companies.

No prerequisite knowledge in IT or GIS technology is assumed.
