Russian Railways and Transnet Ltd. expressed their willingness to discuss questions related to the possible use of South African track equipment and Russian-made locomotives, including adaptations for heavy trains.
The two companies also expressed their interest in exchanging information on the modernisation of railway infrastructure in order to increase train speeds on South African railways based on Russian experience.
Among the issues open for discussion is technology for assessing infrastructure and rolling stock.
The memorandum also provides for cooperation in railway staff training, including the joint implementation of youth training programmes. In addition, the parties expressed their readiness to conduct joint research and development.
According to Oleg Belozerov, Russian Railways and Transnet Ltd. have many common topics for discussion.
Russian Railways and Transnet are diversified companies which have a lot in common. For example, much of our cargo is sent to ports for export, and we make extensive use of combined freight and passenger train movements. I am sure our cooperation will reach a new level and open up additional opportunities,
