As part of the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking, the MultiModX project, which focuses on integrated passenger-centric planning of multimodal transport networks, is set to host an interactive workshop. The event revolves around the theme of creating integrated and coordinated air-rail networks to facilitate seamless passenger journeys. Taking place from 9 am to 4 pm on 20 February, the workshop will be held at the headquarters of the International Union of Railways, located at 16 Rue Jean Rey, Paris.

This collaborative event is organised by Bauhaus Luftfahrt (Project Coordinator), the Airport Regions Council (Project Dissemination Manager) and the International Union of Railways (Project Communication Manager), with facilitation provided by the overarching project consortium.

Commencing in July 2023, MultiModX is backed by the SESAR 3 Joint Undertaking and its members under grant agreement no. 101114815. The project is scheduled to run until December 2025, with a combined grant amount of €1,750,380. Its primary objective is to deliver innovative multimodal solutions and decision support tools for the coordinated planning and management of multimodal transport networks. MultiModX is also developing a multimodal modelling and evaluation framework, complete with key performance areas and indicators, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the impact of multimodal transport systems for various stakeholders.

This workshop will delve deeper into MultiModX solutions and multimodal transport scenarios through specific presentations. The format encourages dynamic exchanges, with attendees encouraged to provide valuable feedback. A World Café process, structured around four conversation rounds, will facilitate dialogue:

1. Round 1: Air-rail use cases and future policy options

  • Identification and characterisation of current and future scenarios for long-distance passenger multimodal transport in Europe.
  • Examples of use cases from Spain and Germany.
  • Exploration of existing and future policies, regulations and emerging multimodal concepts.

2. Round 2: Framework to assess the effectiveness of deepened air-rail cooperation (MultiModX Solution 1)

  • Discussion of the multimodal modelling and evaluation framework developed by MultiModX.
  • Integration into a Performance Assessment Solution, focusing on scheduling and disruption management.

3. Round 3: How to better align future air and rail schedules (MultiModX Solution 2)

  • Focus on the Schedule Design Solution for the integrated planning of air and rail networks.
  • Optimisation of waiting times at transfer nodes to enhance options for multimodal passengers.

4. Round 4: How to better handle disruptions for passengers travelling on both transport modes (MultiModX Solution 3)

  • Exploration of the Disruption Management Solution, involving coordinated air and rail tactical schedule adjustments and passenger reallocation.

We are delighted to invite you to join us on this occasion and encourage your active participation.
