The Innovation Workshops organised by the UIC Passenger Services Group cover technology trends and their impacts on the rail industry. Each workshop combines pitches by industry experts, interactive sessions and co-creation activities enabled by digital collaboration tools.

The latest workshop was held at UIC HQ in Paris on 31 May and discussed “Applying Digital Retailing Best Practices in Passenger Rail”.

The next workshop, “The Metaverse: Threat or Opportunity for Travel Providers?”, will be about the Metaverse concept, the underlying technologies, and their potential applications in Passenger Rail. Topics that will be covered include an overview of the related concepts, such as Immersive Environments, Web3 and NFTs, the current situation with a focus on the components available today and their applications, and how this all may impact travel in the future.

The workshop will take place on 14 September 2023, in Rome, at the EY Wavespace, an exclusive working space where interaction and inspiration are enhanced thanks to technological and innovative tools and dedicated rooms.
