Corridor Development

The development of intercontinental rail freight corridors opens extremely promising perspectives to the growth of rail transportation over long distance, as an alternative to other modes - maritime or road transport - or as an effective partner in the global logistic chain.
UIC, as the worldwide organisation for railways, is particularly committed to support the successful implementation of long distance freight services linking Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

According to its mission, UIC focuses its contribution on improving the harmonisation and interoperability of railway operations along these long corridors serving several countries and different rail systems. These efforts of the rail sector are made in close cooperation with all international organisations and associations with competence for political, legal or administrative aspects.

At this stage of development of Eurasian freight services, UIC supports its members and the Regions by monitoring and assessing the potential transport market along these international corridors and the expectations from customers, shippers, forwarders and partners in the logistic chain (intermodal operators, shipping lines, ports) in light of this development.
